About KeepersNZ
Hi
My name is Arifah and I live in Auckland, New Zealand. I'm married, and have a son and a daughter. I work part-time at a high school looking after our international students which I love.
KeepersNZ was created one night as I was sorting through my wardrobe. I couldn’t believe how much stuff I actually didn’t wear, and how much stuff had been hanging up, unworn for years.
I was brought up to not waste food and you had to eat everything on your plate. This mindset went towards clothing too. If I bought something to wear, I had to keep it. And if I didn’t wear it very often, I still had to keep it because it would have been a waste of money otherwise. And even if I bought something on impulse because it was on sale (or even if it was a bit snug on me) I still had to keep it “just in case”.
And this brings me to my present wardrobe. I have clothes that I no longer wear, that I will never wear, and clothes that just don’t suit me anymore. But these clothes could be worn by someone else, enjoyed by someone else, and loved by someone else!
These clothes could put a smile on someone’s face, make them feel good about themselves AND be affordable. And that’s not a waste of money at all! Especially as it also means reducing waste and recycling clothing that still has lot of life left in it.
And so KeepersNZ was born.
You probably have heard of the saying “finders keepers” which means if you find something by chance, you get to keep it. So at KeepersNZ - you find it, you keep it!
Clothing is for sale for a certain length of time. If they haven't sold by a certain date, then they are donated to the charity One Big Family NZ. This organisation helps those in need of items to help assist in relocation, and setting up homes from scratch. This really resonated with me as it is a way to help those in our community.
Happy shopping and thank you for reading.
A xx
